The small town of Cómpeta is located in the mountainous region of La Axarquía and only 68 km north of the Malaga airport. It is 20 km from the beach.
Cómpeta has approximately 3,900 inhabitants and more than half of these are foreigners. The village has a pleasant climate with more than 300 sunny days a year and an average temperature of 18 degrees.
Cómpeta is one of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia and is known for the warmth of its people, the quality of its local products and its impressive surroundings. Almonds, honey and tropical fruits are important typical products, but the vineyards and olive groves offer the landscape and the main crops. You can taste the delicious sweet wine in many of the local wineries.
This picturesque town has houses typically painted white on cobblestone streets and sloping. Many bars and restaurants offer a variety of foods, including traditional Spanish food and tapas. Cultural attractions include the church of La Asunción from the 16th century, the beautiful facades and a walking tour including photos, poems and history.
Outside the town there is a huge natural park formed by the Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara mountain ranges.
